July 1, 2015 ~ It’s The Big Day!
Hi everyone! I’m so excited to finally be able to officially say It’s The Big Day! The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has posted the information for the cottage food requirements on their website. Now please, please remember that this is still a work in progress and is in no way completed. Don’t get frustrated and please be patient. The registration form isn’t working quite right yet. They are working it out.
Their is a list of requirements you will have to follow which you can read up on and start gathering information for those things. Besides taking the class you will need to get a letter of permission from whoever is in charge of your zoning, and a tax ID number. Once you take the class and fill out the registration form, you send all of that information to the MDA with the fee.
Here’s the link to the website:

Once again please remember this website will continue to be worked on for a few months. They hope to have it completed by September. So if you don’t see the specific information you are looking for that will be why. Everyone involved will do their best to answer your questions. It was over five years ago that the awesome lady (no not me) who began the MN Cottage Food Law Facebook page and petition saw the need and started fighting for this day. If it takes a few more months to work out the kinks, I think we can handle it. 🙂
