Tidbit Tuesday ~ About Cake

A little history about the basic chiffon cake, quoted from and found in one of my favorite books titled, “A Piece Of Cake“, written by Susan G. Purdy.

“The basic chiffon cake is unique in cake history because it’s birth date is recorded. Food historians credit Californian Henry Baker with inventing the chiffon cake in 1927. He later sold the formula to General Mills, which promoted the cake as well as the vegetable oil that was the “mystery ingredient.” As a result of the promotion cake baked with oil became very popular in the 40’s.”
